Choosing the Right Lesson Billing Type

Learn when to use Package Credit, Membership, Pay-as-you-go, or Free/Comped billing for lessons.

Overview

Lesson billing type tells DanceFlow how a scheduled lesson should be covered financially.

Choosing the right billing type makes Daily Closeout easier and helps reports stay accurate.

Package Credit

Use Package Credit when the lesson should deduct from a client package.

Examples:

  • Private lesson package
  • Group class package
  • Practice party package
  • Mixed package with eligible credits

If no valid package credit is available, the lesson may appear under May Need Review.

Membership

Use Membership when the lesson or class is covered by an active membership plan.

Examples:

  • Monthly group class membership
  • Practice membership
  • Membership benefit that includes a certain number of lessons or classes

DanceFlow can track membership usage separately from normal package credits.

Pay-as-you-go

Use Pay-as-you-go when the client will pay for that single lesson without using a package or membership.

Unpaid pay-as-you-go lessons appear under May Need Review until staff record payment or apply account credit.

Free/Comped

Use Free/Comped when the lesson should not require payment or package credit.

Examples:

  • Complimentary intro lesson
  • Staff-approved make-up
  • Owner-approved comp
  • Promotional lesson

Use notes when possible so the reason is clear later.

Best practice

Choose the billing type at scheduling time. This prevents confusion during Daily Closeout and helps staff understand what needs payment, credit, or review.
